I have long said that if the rut you are in is very deep you might have to jump high to get out of it.
Sounds simple doesn’t it.
But when we are talking about our lives and using that as an analogy then the reality is that jumping high just might not be so easy. And it might cost a lot. Sometimes God in his grace for us will let us work ourselves into such a rut that we really have so few options that jumping high turns out to be the best option. By that I mean doing something radically different than what you’ve done before. Perhaps you will leave behind all that you have known and turn to people and/or a geographical location and/or activities that you just never saw in the picture up until that moment.
My son has done that. I first encouraged him in his idea, then I backed away from it because of concerns that came up concerning others and because one of the things I know about myself and him is that I will overlook much to be sure he's ok, then I heard that he had just up and done it and I was glad because in the meantime all the people concerned had time and opportunity to process the changes and figure out how to deal with them. I am in fact relieved. Sometimes making a big change is what it takes. AND he is RD Prophet (like his dad). The streams of experience that he has been in up to this point are drying up and I believe that God has made the way for him to stand in a stream that is different from any he has been in before. This is part of that work that God is doing in our family - to work collectively he must work individually.
As I survey the scene before me and watch some of the changes already underway I wonder if we as a family are entering into an appointed time or something more like the fullness of time. Was this moment always planned in Father’s heart or was he waiting on us to get ready for it. This does not mean that the garden is complete already – not by any means. If you’ve read The Shack – think fractal – and those whose garden it is and Holy Spirit working together to uproot some things and rearrange some others.
As the lady used to say to me – It’s all good miss ann.
